The cast and crew:

Susan Conner

Susan Conner

Owner and President.

With Sunnyside since 1988.

Susan pays the bills, manages the websiteand generally makes sure the Sunnyside ship stays afloat.  A rare Bend native, she joined the Sunnyside team fresh out of college in 1988 and never saw fit to leave. Listen to Susan's philosophy on Sunnyside, Bend, and life in general here.

Mike Schindler

Mike Schindler

Owner and Secretary.  With Sunnyside since  2000.

Mike Schindler is the guy to thank for Sunnyside's awesome bike selection, and he's the technical brains behind a lot of Sunnyside service. After leaving a "real" job in environmental consulting to move to Bend, he started working as a mechanic and is now 50% owner.  Mike spends his off-work time on bikes, skis, and surf boards.  You may also recognize him as the steward to our official Sunnyside shop dog, Happy.

Don Leet

Don Leet

Sales. Since 1980.

Only recently retired from decades on the local and national masters racing scenes, Don has been a partner in Sunnyside since 1980.  You can still find Don out on his mountain bike on the daily.  He also plays piano and bakes a mean pie.  Check out Don's blog here.

Barb Bohm-Becker

Barb Bohm-Becker

Mechanic. Since  1991.

Several years voted as Central Oregon's Best Bike Mechanic, Barb is our chief purple-haired wheel-builder. Barb's signature "black heart" hand-built wheel decal can be found in the quivers of many of our local pro riders, including Adam Craig, Ryan Trebon and Barry Wicks.

Gary Bonacker

Gary Bonacker

Founding father.  Since 1972.

Gary started with Sunnyside in 1972, and has been its face ever since. Gary still works part time at the shop, but is currently best known as the founder of the Tour des Chutes, Central Oregon's largest fundraising bike ride supporting cancer care and survivorship.

Heath Brown

Heath Brown

Mechanic. Since 2015.

Heath moved here from Ohio to join his brother Marty to create the backbone of our service department. Heath doesn't drive, so he gets plenty of riding in all kinds of weather on his Trek Farley. He is also responsible for our annual Sunnyfest Tricycle Races, and is, without a doubt, our fastest man on three wheels.

Michelle Cuhna

Michelle Cuhna

Sales. Since 2016.

Dont’t let the sunny disposition fool you. Michelle has a long history in the bike racing world and is fully capable of ripping your legs off. She also sells real estate, and delivers life-changing brats when we need them most.

Steele Taylor

Sales Manager. Since  2016.

Steele came to us from Angel Fire, New Mexico.  He's a major bike nut, and is arguably our biggest downhill hucker.  You'll find Steele exploring Oregon's remote trails on his  bike, or cruising with his big German Shepherd, Smokey.

Marty Brown

Marty Brown

Mechanic. Since 2014.

When he's not spinning wrenches at Sunnyside, Marty moonlights as a biology professor at C.O.C.C.  Marty is a master-brewer, and is the brain behind our custom Sunnyfest IPA. He's also the younger half of the Brown brothers with brother Heath (above).

Frankie Block

Sales. Since  2013.

Frankie was literally raised in the bike shop, logging hours at Sunnyside since before she could walk. She's been on full-time staff here on and off since high school, and just recently delivered us a shop baby, who isn't great for productivity, but is  a huge boost in morale.

John Worthington

John Worthington

Service Manager. Since  2015.

J-Dub joined us originally as temporary summer help, and look at him now--he runs the whole show. We love him for his pink helmet, his sunny smile, and his un-ending drive to be his best. The doughnuts don't hurt, either.

Cory Tanler

Inventory. Since  2013.

Cory is one of many on our staff who have succumbed to the Sunnyside yo-yo effect. Cory came to work for us in 2013, left for the real world in 2017, and is now back in our clutches. When he's not pounding the keys here at the shop, you'll find Cory on the trails with the fam, his daughter Boone riding Shotgun.

Tyler Winans

Mechanic. Since February 2021.

Tyler is a graduate of our intern program. He's been a shop grom for years, and finally got old enough to come on board with the blessings of Oregon State Bureau of Labor and Industries. Tyler races 'cross and mountain, and has a dog named Sally.

Caiden Hartrich

Mechanic. Since February 2021.

In addition to being a student at Cal Poly, Caiden races XC, gravel, and cyclocross,  and does a little surfing and sailing on the side. The kid is also known for his ability to find the perfect milk-to-cereal ratio, and to inhale a chicken tender.

Mo Elwefati

Sales.  Since 2022.

Mo grew up riding in Bend, and spends a lot of time out on our local XC trails. Although he is no stranger to the wrench, we like to keep him out on our sales floor. Mo is studying Kinesiology at OSU when he's not selling you bikes.

Eric Vickers

Mechanic. Since  2022.

We can't believe our luck at catching Eric on his return to town. Eric is one of Bend's OG mechanics--turning wrenches since 1989. You may know Eric by his initials, ELV. Tired of riding the dusty road along Century Drive, Eric threw down his bike one day and built that critical connector trail.

Alex Yount

Mechanic. Since  2021.

Alex is a second-generation Sunnysider--his dad  used to punch the clock here, and now we're happy to have the new and even bigger-haired version. When he's not overhauling your suspension system,  Alex can be found going downhill on skis or bikes, or climbing the occasional wall.

Flynn Jenkins

Flynn Jenkins

Sales. Since  2018.

Flynn came to us from Springfield, Missouri via Alaska, and more recently, Sunriver. A former competitive kickboxer, Flynn loves mountain biking, fishing, yoga, and snowboarding, and he kinda likes his dog, Rev.

Kevin Barkman

Mechanic. Since  November 2022.

Kevin is our scariest-looking mechanic, but don't be afraid. He's a good hand with a wrench and he's also papa to an adorable Golden Retriever named Finn. You had him pegged for a Pit Bull guy, didn't you? You're wrong and he's all right.

Zach Starr

Product Manager. Since  2015.

Zach is a repeat offender here at Sunnyside, having worked for us on and off in a number of capacities. Currently we're using Zach's computer-wonk skills in our inventory department. In his free time Zach pulls espresso, rides bikes, and plays a mean game of Ultimate Frisbee.

Brad Whiteside

Mechanic.  Since 2022.

A midwesterner by birth, Brad came here by way of Santa Cruz. Trained as a graphic designer,  he's been turning wrenches since 2013. You'll know Brad on the trails by his two coon hounds, Daisy and Sage.  If she's in your way, it's Sage.

Chris Moor

Chris Moor

Mechanic. Since  2015.

There are those in the cycling world who can fix your body as well as your bike, and Chris is one of those. With a degree in Kinesiolgy/Physiology, Chris is on track to become a physician's assistant. Until then, you’ll find his signature on the bottom of many of our deep repairs.

Tom Mccabe

Tom Mccabe

Mechanic. Since February 2019.

We feel very fortunate to have found and added Tom to the team. Tom holds degrees in German, English, and History, so naturally he’s right at home at the bike shop. When he’s not writing service here at Sunnyside you’ll find Tom hanging with his kids and wrangling  the family reptiles.

Wells Jones

Mechanic. Since December 2020.

We like a guy who has lived everywhere, knows his way around a bike, and has two last names. Wells is a big board game , sci-fi, and fantasy fan, as well as a passable leather-worker and blacksmith,  so he's arguably our most well-rounded and skilled nerd.
