Want to Bike in Bend, Oregon? Here's the local scoop:

Where to Ride in Bend:

Road/Gravel Cyclists:

We’ve got all kinds of great riding here, so take your pick! Ship or bring your bike into us for assembly, or rent a Trek Domane or Checkpoint. For a signature scenic road ride, try Twin Bridges Loop. If climbing is your thing, hit McKenzie pass, or the Crooked River Scenic Bikeway for some high desert scenery. On the gravel side, ride the Westside Tour, or Ride to Sisters for a cup of coffee.

Mountain Bikers:

Ship or bring your bike into us for assembly, or rent one of our all carbon, XT-equipped dual suspension mountain bikes from Ibis, Trek, or Yeti. Make sure you explore the Phil’s Trail area so you can prove you’ve been here. Next take a Cog Wild Shuttle up Century Drive  and pedal back down into town. For some high desert action, check out Swamp Wells in the Horse Butte area. Check out our favorite Bend mountain bike trails with GPS links!

Urban Explorers and Family Riders:

Rent one of our Trek Dual Sport+ rental E-bikes, or hard-tail mountain bikes, and hit the town. From the shop, head towards Shevlin Park for a ride along Tumalo Creek, then head back towards downtown for some food and shopping. From there you can take the Deschutes River Trail upriver towards the Old Mill District and even up to the Cascade Lakes Welcome Station. Head downriver for some beautiful canyon views of the Deschutes River. If you’re just looking for easy transportation to the pubs in our central core, make it simple and hop on a Bird Bike.

If you're riding with Littles:

It’s hard to go wrong with the beautiful, flat riding at Shevlin Park, or the paved paths around Bend Pine Nursery with nearby playgrounds and dog park. Unfortunately we don’t have children’s bikes or trailers in the rental fleet. Check with Wheel Fun Rentals for that!

Bike Path Options:

Rent the bike of your choice, and head back towards downtown to ride the North Deschutes River Trail. Or head towards the mountains on beautiful paved path towards the Cascade Welcome Station. There are lots of other in-town options--check here.

When to Bike (or Ski) in Bend

Spring (March-May)

  • Cross country skiing (Rent here)
  • Gravel or road riding--Rides in the Redmond area are generally better because of their lower elevation. Bring extra gear in case you hit a rain or hail squal!
  • Trail riding, not so much. Trail riding  is typically only recommended on lower trails, generally east of town. Think Horse Ridge, Horse Butte, Maston, and Grey Butte areas. Check Bendtrails.org for current trail conditions. Riding west of town on vulnerable and muddy trails is definitely not recommended. Please don't do it!

Summer (June-August)

  • Gravel and road riding everywhere! It’s all good. August is a big month for road construction, though, so check in with us about detours and closures.
  • Trail riding all over. Make sure you take advantage of Cog Shuttles and get up into the high country. Lower trails east of town will be dusty, so stay clear of Horse Ridge and Horse Butte areas. Heads up for mosquitos in the high country, and make sure you’re packing plenty of water and something to put on in case things cool off.

Fall (September-October)

  • Gravel and road riding everywhere. Be aware that temperatures cool down significantly in the evenings.
  • Trail riding is great everywhere as well. Don’t be afraid if it rains—the trails will soak it up and be awesome!

Winter (November-February)

  • Cross country skiing everywhere. Hot tip: If it snows 6 inches or more in town, don’t head up to the mountain—hit Shevlin Park or any of the trails along the Deschutes. They are magical!
  • Fat biking: The trails at Wanoga are groomed for fat bikes, and we have rentals. Check Bendtrails.org for current trail conditions. Or hit the local river trails on a snowy day. Rent a fat bike here.
  • Gravel and road riding is possible if the ground is clear. Just bundle up and go! Remember it gets dark early so make sure you have lighting.
  • Trail riding is doable if the ground is clear, but please ride early in the morning before the trails thaw and get muddy.  Check Bendtrails.org for current trail conditions. Riding west of town on vulnerable and muddy trails is definitely not recommended. Please don't do it!
