1972 - Doors open at Sunnyside Touring on Irving Avenue. Jim Desmet and Gary Fowles were joined by a young Gary Bonacker, who worked at the shop for free and collected bottles for income. 1973 - Sunnyside moves to Greenwood Avenue. Selling Peugeot, Motobecane, and Raleigh. 1976 - Sunnyside moves to Bond Street. Picks up Univega Bicycles 1978 - Sunnyside Touring sells to an investment group and becomes Sunnyside Sports 1980 - The Cascade Cycling Classic begins with a small and dedicated group of volunteers including Gary and Don. Sunnyside picks up Trek Bicycles
1982 - First mountain bike arrives --A Univega Alpina Pro 1983 - Don Leet purchases Sunnyside 1983 - Don gets Trek's first prototype mountain bike. Now in Trek's in-house museum 1984 - Store moves to Wall Street 1985 - Sunnyside picks up Bridgestone and had our first $1000 mountain bike on the floor--an MB0 1987 - Sunnyside/Bridgestone Mountain Bike Team takes life at the store. Includes Don, John Howcroft, Julie Willis, and the late Tom Pickett of Pickett's Charge fame. 1990 - Store moves to its current location on Newport Ave. Don rides a suspension fork at World's - Purchased from Rockshox Reps at World's 1993 - Bonackers become partners in Sunnyside, Inc. 2002 - Store remodels to double in size 2003 - Gary is diagnosed with brain cancer 2005 - 700 riders attend the first Tour des Chutes 2007 - Mike Schindler becomes a partner.
