Believe it or not, we didn't get into the bike business for the money. Here's a look at some of the stuff that makes it all worthwhile.
April 17, 2009. Elroy spends a lot of time here at the shop, and while his favorite task is going along on test rides with Seth, sometimes he's stuck truing wheels. He does his best, however, to stay close at hand at all times...
April 2nd, 2009. We don't like to limit ourselves--We'll work on anything with pedals and a chain, and that includes tractors. Eric helped this guy get his rig rolling again by throwing a new master-link on the chain.
March 23, 2009. Nothing like being the first on the block to get to check out the new stuff. This is Shimano Tech Rep Tommy here in the shop holding the new Dura Ace DI2 electronic shifting group on a road bike. We all got to ride it, and yes, it is absolutely as amazing as it's $5000+ price tag would indicate.
March 15, 2009. Jim built a new wall, and made the mistake of leaving it blank. That sent our man Russell off to Bi-Mart to buy posters to decorate. He came back with a Skeletor and Hanna Montana. Feast your eyes on this picture because, guaranteed, this look won't last long.
March 11, 2009. We love reviewing old dual-suspension designs, and early-'90s custom bike is our latest favorite--it really puts the rear in rear suspension, don't you agree? Actually, this baby was top-notch in its day...
March 8, 2009. Two things happened that lead to this picture: Jake had a birthday, and we found a cigar. It all came together out at the dumpster--our designated smoking area.
March 5, 2009. Springtime is the time when mechanics get their new bikes. Seth is here with his new Trek Remedy 9. It's a big-hit bike, but he says it pedals uphill like a bad boy.
February 20, 2009. It takes a special kind of person to get excited about electrical tape, but here at Sunnyside we have a shop full of tape connaisseurs. What you see here is the finest in Scotch brand electrical--only the finest for finishing your bars!
February 18, 2009. There are any number of ways to get a bicycle down the road. Most include chains--but not all. Eric's latest challenge is this drive-shaft Incline quality bicycle. It comes complete with a 7-speed internal hub, and, sadly several broken teeth on the planetary gear.
February 13, 2009. What you see here is a 50th anniversary Campagnolo crankset for an absolute cream-puff of a Baylis bicycle that came in to the shop for an overhaul. This 25-year-old gem was equipped with the full group, including the pedals. This one had to be cleaned twice--once for the overhaul, and once for the nostaligic drool coming off of its admirers.
February 11, 2009. This one is hard to see, but it is the result of a valiant attempt by a fly-rod builder to repair a broken ski pole. This guy took the broke pole shaft, and wrapped and epoxied it like a joint on a fly rod. Unfortunately nordic skiers pack more force than even a steelhead, so this one came back to the shop, in pieces once again.
February 6, 2009. This one goes down on the record books as our longest (and smallest) road bike repair. This little gem has been hanging in the back for over a year, awaiting replacement tires and parts that are unique and hard to come by, to say the least. Anyway, Gary has finally finished his project, and took a victory cruise on this '70s era Motobecane with 450a wheels.
February 1, 2009. Russ got this new saddle on his bike, and had it leaning in the repair area. Jacob found it later, neatly covered with a shop rag. Turns out Jeffrey covered it up--after all, we're a family store, and the leopard print made it look, well, like it should be covered up.
January 26, 2009. Simple truth: New bikes make you smile. Damian's new single-speed was actually made for him by his uncle, who makes Fetish frames. Damian tricked it out with a Paul's crankset, a flip-flop hub, and a moustache bar.
January 24, 2009. Here's Jim with his brand new ride--a TrekTop Fuel 9.9 SSL. He says that SSL stands for "Super Stupid Light," and we think he's right.
