There is a bike for everyone and everything. Here is the what and why of the bikes we sell:
No other way to say it: A road bike is simply the most efficient way to go down a road. Prices range upwards of $650. Most road bikes we sell are in the $1,500-$2,500 range. They’re light, fun, fast, and yes, comfortable. The drop handlebar on a road bike enables multiple hand positions, which is the most comfortable over long miles. If you ride for an hour or more at a time on roads, and/or you ride with friends who ride road bikes, a road bike is the bike for you.
We sell road bikes from Trek, Orbea, Ibis, Ritchey, and IF.
Hard-Tail Mountain Bike: Ranging in price from $300, hard-tail mountain bikes have front shock forks and a rigid back end. Their 26″ wheels take a wide tire that is perfect for dirt and gravel, but is relatively heavy for rolling on pavement. A hard-tail mountain bike is not necessarily your fastest option, but it’s a solid workhorse–game for anything. Buy a hard-tail mountain bike if you’re only going to own one bike and need something that can handle trails as well as a quick trip to the grocery store.
Dual Suspension Mountain Bike: If you want to ride trails, and you have a budget of $1,500 or more, a dual suspension mountain bike is your best choice. Front and rear suspension benefits beginning riders by smoothing out technical single-track, and allowing the rider a more comfortable, relaxed ride. More advanced riders enjoy dual suspension because it allows for bigger bumps at higher speeds.
We sell mountain bikes from Trek, Ibis, and Yeti.
Hybrid bikes range in price from $400-$2,000. They have flat handlebars and low gears like a hard-tail mountain bike, but they have a road bike-sized (700c) wheel and thinner tire that makes for a fast roll on pavement. Hybrid bikes make ideal commuters, or fitness bikes for riders who don’t want either the drop-bar position, or the expense of a traditional road bike.
We sell hybrid bikes from Trek and Orbea.
There are two reasons to own a cyclocross bike: Either you’re racing ‘cross, or you want to own one of the most versatile bicycles made. ‘Cross racers: You know who you are. Others:
A cyclocross bike is set up much like a road bike, with a drop-style handlebar and 700c wheels. A cyclocross bike can take a tire anywhere from a super-skinny (700×23) tire to a knobby (700×38) dirt tire, making it a great choice for summer road rides and fall trail rides. The wider tires also make for a great commuter. Cyclocross bikes cannot have tires as wide as mountain bikes, and they don’t have suspension, limiting their trail use for less technically-skilled riders. Cyclocross bikes are priced much like road bikes, from $1,000 on up.
We sell cyclocross bikes from Trek, Yeti, Ibis, and Orbea
Comfort bikes are essentially hard-tail mountain bikes, designed for a more casual rider. While they have the low gears and fat tires of a mountain bike, t hey have very high handlebars and wide, comfortable saddles that make them very comfortable for short rides. With prices from $300-$600, comfort bikes are fun, friendly, and affordable.
We sell Trek comfort bikes.
Any bike can be used as a commuter bike, but bikes sold as commuter bikes typically come equipped with racks, fenders, lights, etc. Commuters typically put riders in a more upright position, and often have internal shifting (like the old-style 3-speeds) to minimize complication and maintenance.
We sell commuter bikes from Trek and Breezer.
Cruiser bikes look cool. They’re great for short, flat trips and, well, that’s it. But did we mention that they look cool? They do.
We sell Trek cruiser bikes.
Kids are some of our favorite customers! We stock a full line of kids bikes as follows:
Ages 1 -4: We love the Strider Balance Bikes. They’re tiny and light, and have no pedals to confuse things. Kids sit on the seat and push themselves along until they learn to balance, and then–watch out! Essentially Strider-trained kids bypass training wheels, which is a real back-saver for parents and grandparents. We also sell Burley trailers so that you can tow your little one along.
Ages 4-10: Kids mountain bikes of various sizes are the typical choice here, although we also have road options that are great for kids who ride to school, etc. Prices range from $200-$400. We also sell Trailercycles that attach to your bike so that kids can pedal along.
Ages 10+: Most kids in this age bracket can be fit up to a small adult bike, allowing for maximum growing room.
We sell kids bikes from Trek and Strider.
For some people two wheels is just too many. Some of our employees ride unicycles, and we carry trail models from Sun. We also have Chris Holm Muni’s available to order. Give us a call and ask for Jake or Muffy.
